Since then, she has fully embraced being a professional athlete, traveling the world, and seeking her best every day. Haley is currently coached by Kristin Armstrong, and together they have achieved World Cup podiums and success at the Tokyo Olympics. Haley tries to apply herself to her other activities, including her studies at university, with the same drive as her cycling career. She enjoys doing other sports and building skill sets to have an action-packed and exciting life.
What inspired you to become a coach?
I’ve always been passionate about the details when it comes to my own training. I enjoy making sure I have the best equipment, nutrition, mindset, technical abilities, and physical training possible when it comes to race day. That detail-oriented process has allowed me to better understand the many dimensions of being an athlete. I love to share this enjoyment for the sport and the training process with those that have supported me along the way. I have had very influential mentors and coaches in my life, including Kristin Armstrong, and she believed that having great people on her team has helped her achieve what she has so far. I hope that being a coach will allow me to share the joy of the athletic journey with young athletes. I want to help provide the necessary support and experience, like so many have provided for me, to help young athletes reach new goals.
Best tip for a new bike racer?
Ride consistently and always challenge yourself! Growth happens when you are outside of your comfort zone, so try something new in your training or riding.
Favorite ride food?
Homemade rice bars
Favorite post ride/race meal?
Pad Thai
Motivational warm up song:
My race playlist is always changing! One song that has been on my warm-up playlist for a little while now is "Hard Time" by Seinabo Sey.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
The perspective you have of your life and your situation is your own to create.
Tell us something about yourself that people may not know.
I’m learning to play the ukulele!
Favorite words of inspiration:
“Be fearless in pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”
How can you help a client reach their goal?
I’ve been racing and riding throughout my life and have learned so much every step of the way. I want to be involved in the athlete’s journey and help them make a story that is unique to them. I think that this process starts by making goals that are meaningful to YOU. The athlete needs to define what they want to achieve and WHY. From there I think I can help an athlete see their goals and training in a way that is fun and guided by their interests. I think the best way to learn and achieve is by letting the athlete be part of the building process. I want to guide them along the way by challenging them and helping them build confidence in their capabilities.
