About Danny:
Danny's journey in cycling began as a teenager in his home state of Colorado, where he embraced the thrill of Mountain, Road, and Cyclocross biking. While he found the most joy in mountain biking, his exceptional talent on the road made the decision to focus solely on road racing a natural progression.
In 2001, Danny dedicated much of the year to racing with USA Cycling, culminating in his triumph as the World Time Trial Champion in the U23 category. Despite a challenging stint with Team Saeco in 2000, which left him disillusioned with Division 1 teams and their questionable ethics, he chose to race domestically in the US in 2002.
Danny made a triumphant return to European racing in 2006 with Team Slipstream. He recognized that the only way to reach his highest potential in the sport was by embracing the challenges of racing in Europe.
Later in his career, Danny raced with esteemed teams such as Team Garmin, Team Highroad, and Team Sky. Often found in a supportive role, he excelled at controlling the pace at the front for a race leader or chasing down sprints for a finish. His favorite aspects of racing were the intense focus required for a successful time trial and the teamwork necessary in road stages to shape the race's outcome in their favor.
Danny played a pivotal role in securing victories at prestigious races such as Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie, and Criterium du Dauphine. His contributions also led to stage wins and the coveted Green Jersey at the Tour de France, as well as Team Time Trial (TTT) victories.
What inspired you to become a coach?
Best tip for a new bike racer?
Learn from observing and getting to know experienced riders. Pay attention to the way they ride on a group ride or race and how the group responds to them, and try to form connections with them.
Favorite ride food?
Sweets. Enjoy sugar on the bike, not on the couch.
Favorite post ride/Night before meal?
Motivational warm up song:
It didn’t really matter to me; I used music more as a way to block everything and everyone out so I could concentrate better on my warm-up and ride plan.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Tell us something about yourself that people may not know.
I have two small dogs and speak Chiweeanses.
Favorite words of inspiration:
'Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.' - Stephen king
How can you help a client reach their goal?
" We all have past experiences and biases that affect how we see ourselves and our performances. Having me as your coach will give you someone in your corner with a grounded viewpoint to assess your current position. Then with your feedback we can build your best plan to improve and achieve your goals. To me good training is a realistic plan of being intentional about improving, that also fits into the rest of your life. Developing the best plan is a conversation of your motivators, goals, and what success looks like to you. Then we reverse engineer a plan to get to your goals using your motivations." Danny
