About Ben:

Ben is a dedicated strength coach based in Roanoke, Virginia. A lifelong athlete, Ben discovered his passion for strength and conditioning during his high school years as an Ultimate Frisbee player. Influenced by many great coaches throughout his journey as a high school, college, and club player, Ben found his true calling in helping others reach their full potential through targeted strength and nutrition coaching.

After earning his bachelor’s degrees in health and exercise science & Business Administration, Ben served as the Director of Coaching and a Performance Specialist at a local training facility in Roanoke. He has had the privilege of working with athletes of all ages and disciplines, helping them elevate their performance. His experience includes working with teams such as the Roanoke Railyard Dawgs minor league hockey team and numerous high school & collegiate athletes across sports like baseball, basketball, soccer, and football. Ben has also successfully guided many athletes through Return to Play programs following ACL injuries and other setbacks.

Ben’s journey took a new direction after working with Nicola and Helena Jones, where he recognized a significant need for targeted strength training to enhance cyclists' performance and reduce injuries. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in exercise prescription from UCONN while focusing on helping cyclists achieve their performance goals through specialized strength training programs.

What inspired you to become a coach?

As a young athlete being able to work with many great strength coaches helped me grow not only physically but also mentally. I wanted to give youth athletes the same opportunities I had to truly have someone in their corner who cares about their development and can give them the proper tools to succeed.

Best tip for someone new to strength programming?

Find a great coach. It can be hard to figure out what’s truly going to move the needle especially in a sport like cycling. Having a great coach can allow you to skip the trial and error phase and get straight to increasing performance.

 Favorite ride food?

 Maple Syrup & Local Honey

Favorite post ride/race meal?

 Fried rice or fettucine alfredo

 Motivational warm up song:

 On Top- Flume

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

"learn to love the process, not the outcome." This mindset shift helps athletes concentrate on what they can control—effort, attitude, and consistency—rather than becoming fixated on results. The best athletes are those who truly love the sport and aren’t just in it for the trophies. By committing to the process, improvements and success naturally follow, leading to sustained growth and peak performance.

Favorite words of inspiration: "You gotta water your plants. Nobody can water them for you.” – DJ Khaled

How can you help a client reach their goal?

"I will be your biggest supporter. My goal is to help as many people as possible through strength and conditioning, along with nutrition advice. Whether you need to recover from an injury, improve your cycling performance, or simply move better and feel more confident in your body's capabilities, I’m here to help you achieve your goals." - Coach Ben
